 ORLANDO VACATION TIPS  By: Vacation Packages Staff Writer Tom So, you’ve found the best Orlando vacation package, you’ve pulled the kids from school, now it’s time to plan that Orlando family vacation. I thought I’d throw together some helpful tips so that you truly enjoy your Orlando vacation: Traffic: Ok, so it’s not as bad as California traffic, but Orlando has it’s shares of traffic issues. A few places you need to avoid especially around rush hour: I-4. This popular Orlando to Tampa interstate can turn into a parking lot around 8-9 am, lunchtime and again around 5-7 pm. There is always construction going on as well. There are many toll roads which can be used to bypass I-4 including 417, 408 and the Florida turn-pike. Always worth the extra quarters it may cost you. Orlando Dining: If you and your family decide to dine near International Drive or in the vicinity of the attractions, note that 18% gratuity is often added to your bill automatically. The Weather: During the summer, you can expect to see some later afternoon thunder showers: if you are heading to the attractions, be sure to grab some type of rain gear so that you don’t need to purchase it with a 150% markup. Trust me, it will come in handy. Afternoon showers usually only last about 30-45 minutes, but a lot of rain can come down quickly! Also, if you are lounging in the pool and a thunderstorm starts to creep out, get out of the water and to safety as quickly as possible. Central Florida holds the record for the lightning capital of the world for good reason. Orlando Shopping: There are many malls, etc. in the Orlando area: some of my favorites: The Belz Factory Outlet Mall, The Mall At Millenia and The Florida Mall. Each of these is within about a half hour drive to the attractions and feature ample dining, COOL air conditioning and plenty of shops for you to visit.
